Default Power Fluctuations and Idle sputter

Hello. New to forum. But, I did a search and couldn't find my problem. So, hopefully this isn't spam.

I have a 2005 2.7 SE Dodge Magnum.

For the last few months I been having suttle issues with the lights of the vehicle (best seen at night) fluctuating by dimming and brightening randomly.

The causes that have a high probability of causing the reaction is as followed:

  • Revving the engine to 2k-2.5k RPMS at idle.
  • messing with the driver and passenger window buttons.
  • accelerating rapidly after 2nd gear (Extremely random occurrence)
  • Accelerating from a stop to 45 mphs slowly, but firmly (Driving slightly faster than the typical grandpa.)
Something else to note: sometimes with the window wipers, if turned to setting speed: 2. It will intermittently switch to "HI." It also has a high occurrence of happening if I switch the knob quickly to speed setting 2.

At Idle, oh say waiting on a red light only, the engine will drop from 760ish RPMs to roughly 550 for a second, shake and catch itself, rev back to normal and everything is fine for the next minute.

This does not appear to ever happen in the tranny is in Neutral or Park. (This includes brake applied while in Neutral/Park.)

The main issues with these symptoms is that I appear to have:

  • Loss of power
  • Slightly poorer Fuel efficiency (missing 1-2 City and 3-4 HWY[20.3/25 No median in mixed driving. Mixed driving reverts to city mileage. When I first attained the vehicle it was always: 22/25/28])
  • Random burst of power (Half Throttle-WOT)
  • Random loss of power (Half Throttle-WOT)

PS: Heat only works if the car is in motion. Otherwise, I do not have heat. Even if it's circulating only the air from the cabin...

Not sure about the light issue but I would clean the throttle body and see if that helps the rough idle problem. Based on what you said about the heat I'm wondering if you need to flush your heater core, sounds like a flow issue to me.

I'll definitely look into flushing my cooling system and cleaning my throttle.

Is it possible that my battery is under-powered for my vehicle? I do not know if the battery is the same battery from factory, as I bought the vehicle used. Is there a way to tell if the battery is poor? I've had some electrical test done for charging and battery and they all come back positive, though. But, those were only autozone-type test.

Also, I know my timing is always advanced(ignition advance) by a measurement of 2.5 to 16 at idle in park/neutral. I get these reading from my scan-tool.

Also, something to note on my throttle: OIL does leak into the intake due to the PCV hoses.. there doesn't seem to be a catch for the oil that gets siphoned up and through the intake. When I take apart the top end of the manifold to do my tune-up, it's always splattered with oil within the manifold housing and even in the intake ducts. It's never a lot.. but always a thin, highly noticeable, bit of oil.

Default Lights

I had the same issue with my 05 2.7, power windows etc. would cause headlights to go dim, found that the battery was dying, also to headlights would blink (flash) and I found that the headlight switch was the culprit, sorry I can't help you with the other issues.
