Default Recommended oil

Does anyone know what type of motor oil (viscosity/weight) is recommended for a 2007 Dodge Magnum SXT with I believe a 3.5 six cylinder engine. Its a high mileage engine so I will probably use a high mileage oil. I use a 10/30 or 10/40 in some of my older rides.

You can download an owners manual here, it should have the info.

Rather than trying to use the on line users manual, I bought one off eBay. There are a bunch of them there.

The recommended oil for the SXT (3.5 V6) is 10W30. This seems odd because most cars for the last 20 or more years recommend 5W30 which is now the most popular oil sold. Can anyone offer an explanation why 10W30 is recommended for the SXT?

As I understand oil viscosity ratings, both 10W30 and 5W30 have the same viscosity at running temperature, but the 5W30 is a bit thinner at cranking temperature in the middle of winter, allowing easier starting and more rapid oil circulation when it;s really cold. In fact, 5W30 has a shallower viscosity vs. temperature curve, meaning it won't thin out as much at extreme temperatures as 10W30. Contrary to popular belief, 5W30 is not "thinner" than 10W30, except at zero degrees.
